In honor of the Lunar New Year, we here at imeanttolisten HQ wanted to give you all a playlist to celebrate.

The Year of the Horse follows the Snake which could represent personal shedding and quiet plodding which compliments our new year of momentum and independence. Sounds great to me. After multiple hiccups over the last few months, I finally feel confident about this little site and I’m excited to see where it can go.

Plus this is also a year under a fire sign, so it’s a must that this year will also be fire. For real for real.

So knowing that, you might think this playlist dives a little deeper into some songs that honor this transition of signs, but no, it’s just a bunch of songs with horse in the title or lyrics. Even a couple bands with the word horse made the cut just for that reason.

I decided to switch up a few songs and include covers instead. I really love Michelle Branch’s vocals on “A Horse With No Name” (originally by America) and The Sunday’s version of “Wild Horses” moves me more than the Stones’ version. There are covers of Ginuwine’s “Pony”, but I’m against anything that desecrates an anthem of a generation.

As of this posting, the playlist (and the monthly Billboard retrospectives) are available on Spotify. And while I don’t personally use the service, a lot of people do and it’s a simple method for me to embed the playlists on this site. Once I figure out how to incorporate other services, I may change it up.

Anyways, here’s the playlist! Happy New Year… Giddy Up!
