What I’m Listening To: September 2019

Much of this blog is about things that I have meant to listen to, or things that you should listen to, but never what I’m currently listening to. Well, that’s about to change! I guess I’ll do these as long as I remember to do so.

The-Highwomen-Album-Cover

The Highwomen, Self-Titled

The long awaited debut from this newest country supergroup has been on quite a bit over the past weekend. Ever since they released an irresistible cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”, I have been anticipating this album. Songs like “Crowded Table” and “Don’t Call Me” effortlessly blends the classic country sound with powerfully relevant lyrics. Definitely check it out!

Danny Brown, “Dirty Laundry”

In preparation for his upcoming release, Danny Brown released a video for the single “Dirty Laundry”. In what I can basically describe as Danny Brown meets Eric Andre after a ripping bender, “Dirty Laundry” is classic Danny Brown. My only issue is I still can’t put my finger on what is being sampled on the track.  Anyways, it’s a fun bop that shouldn’t be played anywhere near children. Or do. I don’t care, it’s not like I know what kids like these days.

Tame Impala and Kendrick Lamar, “The Less I Know The Better/ELEMENT.” (Mashup)

Every so often I’ll check out the subreddit /r/mashups to get my fill of delicious remixes. I think there is nothing better than a well made mashup. Sadly, most attempts are terrible, but when it’s done right, I make a stereotypical chef’s kiss and try to dance along with my cat. My cat hates mashups, as well as everything else.

But this? Holy smoothness, Batman! I found this amazing mashup by creator Xudeus. It combines the ferocious flow of Kendrick Lamar’s “ELEMENT.” over the sultry instrumental of Tame Impala’s “The Less I Know The Better“. It just works so well, and I’m so excited that I found it. It’s absolutely making its way on a few playlists in the future.
